Domestic stock markets settled on a positive note on Wednesday, with the S&P BSE Sensex index closing on a record high level. The Sensex rose to as high as 40,606.91 in intraday deal, up 358.38 points from the previous close. The broader NSE Nifty benchmark rose as much as 85.7 points to touch 12,002.90 on the upside. Gains in banking, financial and realty stocks supported the markets. Infosys shares surged and were among the top gainers on both benchmark indices, after the company said that it "strongly condemns the mischievous insinuations" made by anonymous sources against the co-founders and former colleagues.
