Government has procured 161.95 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat during the Rabi marketing season 2022-23 till May 1, according to data provided by Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were the states from where the maximum procurement of wheat was done.
Over 14.70 lakh farmers have benefitted from the procurement process, the ministry said, with the minimum support price (MSP) value of Rs 32,633.71 crore.
At the same time, Government has also procured paddy worth 760 LMT till May 1 under the Kharif marketing season.
The ministry's statement said that around 110 lakh farmers have benefitted from paddy procurement with MSP value of Rs 1,49,144 crore.
Maximum paddy procurement was made from states like Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Odisha among others.
