The Adani Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Druk Green Power Corporation- an entity that is mandated to maintain major hydropower assets in Bhutan, with the group set to build a 570 megawatt hydro power plant in the Chukha province of the country, according to Guatam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group.

The deal was a result of Gautam Adani's visit to the country, where he not only met Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck but also Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay.

The hydropower project was announced by Gautam Adani in social media posts.

The latest MoU could stand to benefit Adani Green Energy, the group's renewable energy arm. As of the end of March, the company had 47 gigawatts of installed hydro power capacity, which it aims to increase to 59 gigawatts by the end of the decade.

The Adani Group chairman also also praised the king of Bhutan in his post, saying it was admirable to see the prime minister advancing the monarch's vision and pursuing broad-ranging infrastructure initiatives.

He added that he looked forward to working closely on hydro power and other infrastructure in Bhutan, marking a strategic move from India's perspective.

In a separate post on social media platform, X, the Adani Group chairman wrote, "Honoured to meet His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan. Inspired by his vision for Bhutan and the ambitious ecofriendly masterplan for Gelephu Mindfulness City, including large computing centers and data facilities".

Adani also added that he was excited to collaborate on the transformative initiatives and would also be a part of Bhutan's green energy management initiative.
