Ex-Commerzbank Compliance Officer Loses Race Discrimination Suit

Ex-Commerzbank Compliance Officer Loses Race Discrimination Suit

A former Commerzbank AG compliance officer lost his race discrimination claim against the bank in a London tribunal.

George Gyimah's claims of direct race discrimination, harassment related to race, and victimization were dismissed in their entirety by judge Natasha Joffe in a decision filed Oct. 16. and made public Wednesday. The lender and four ex-colleagues were named in the suit.

Gyimah alleged he was subject to a pattern of discrimination and made to feel like a criminal during his time at the German bank in 2019, according to his witness statement at a London employment tribunal hearing in July.

The ex-employees, who were accused of using racist stereotypes and leaving him out of meetings, denied the allegations during the employment trial.

“We have always maintained that these claims were entirely without merit and we are pleased with the judgment of the tribunal,” a Commerzbank spokesperson said.

Gyimah didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. His lawyer in the tribunal said he couldn't comment.
