More than half the area of the steel city of Jamshedpur plunged into darkness for over two hours this evening after the high tension wire of Damodar Valley Corporation's (DVC) gridline in Manifit snapped, wire agency PTI reported.
The electricity supply was disrupted at around 7 pm plunging the major part of the steel city into darkness, the report added.
“This was caused due to the tripping of the DVC Current Transformer (CT). The fluctuation in voltage led to a loud noise which was speculated in some sections as being a blast in the Tata Steel Plant. We wish to clarify that there was no such incident in the plant and the production is going on uninterrupted. There is no threat to life or property,” Tata Steel said in an emailed statement to BloombergQuint.
