Edtech company Byju's has reversed its decision to close its office at Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

Think and Learn Pvt., Byju's official name, will continue operations of its TVM (Thiruvananthapuram) product development centre, according to a company spokesperson. As a result, 140 associates will continue to operate from this centre.

The decision came after an intervention from the Kerala Chief Minister's Office, said a person aware of the development, who didn't want to be identified.

Of Byju's 50,000 employees, around 3,000 employees are based out of Kerala.

The company's officials and employees met on Wednesday in the presence of State Labour Commissioner K Vasuki and the IT employees' group Pratidhwani.

Byju's has agreed to retain its facility at Technopark; the decision to shut down is reverted and the status will be maintained as on September 2022, a Facebook post by Pratidhwani Technopark said.

Byju's will retain the employees it had asked to resign last month in light of the now-reverted shutdown, it said.

There also won't be any retaliation action or "revenge behaviour" from management towards the employees, Pratidhwani said.

According to the post, official communication will be sent to all employees informing them of these decisions.

Back in October, a delegation of Byju's employees working at the Technopark facility had met Kerala's Labour Minister V Sivankutty, alleging that the company had shut down the office and was forcing them to resign.

Receiving their representation, Sivankutty had said the Labour Department would thoroughly investigate the matter.
