(Bloomberg) -- Heat stroke and toxicities from substances like chocolate and alcohol are among the Fourth of July pet injuries that cost the most to treat, according to Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. The company sorted through data from its 575,000 insured pets to come up with the rankings, according to a statement tied to the U.S. Independence Day celebration, an event marked by outdoor gatherings and fireworks. The Columbus, Ohio-based insurer recommends that people set up a safe area for pets, keep toxic foods away, provide plenty of water and not assume their dogs can swim.
