(Bloomberg) -- Angola conditionally released Nito Alves Chivonde, who had remained in jail when 16 other people were set free last month, after being accused and tried for plotting to overthrow the government.
“Yes, I am home,” Chivonde, 20, said Tuesday in a phone interview. “I am with my family.”
Chivonde was left behind for “showing disrespect” to the court during proceedings. The activists were sentenced to terms ranging from two years to eight years on March 28. Human-rights groups have repeatedly accused the government of one of Africa's biggest oil producers of arbitrarily arresting its critics and curbing freedom of speech.
