Auto Sales In April 2025: Bajaj Auto Dips 6%, Hero MotoCorp Muted On Factory Shutdowns

Ashok Leyland Sales Down 6% In April 2025

Total sales of Ashok Leyland Ltd. declined in April 2025 on account of muted volumes in the commercial-vehicle space.

The Chennai-based automaker shipped in India and abroad a total of 7,960 trucks and buses last month, as against 9,123 units in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing on Friday. Shipments of light commercial vehicles rose 6% year-on-year to 5,461 units last month.

Bajaj Auto Sales Dip 6% In April 2025 Weak India Volumes 

Total sales of Bajaj Auto Ltd. fell in April 2025 over the year earlier due to muted demand in the world's largest two-wheeler market.

The Chakan, Pune-based automaker shipped a total of 3,65,810 vehicles last month, as against 3,88,256 units in the year-ago period, registering a decline of 6% year-on-year, according to an exchange filing on Friday.

  • Domestic two-wheeler sales down 13% YoY at 1,88,615 units

  • Two-wheeler exports up 4% YoY at 1,29,322 units

  • Total two-wheeler sales down 7% YoY at 3,17,937 units

The company's three-wheeler business in India and abroad grew 3% year-on-year to 47,873 units.


Planned Factory Shutdowns Impact Hero's April Sales

Monthly wholesales of Hero MotoCorp Ltd. were muted in April 2025 due to a planned shutdown of four of its manufacturing plants in India.

India's largest two-wheeler dispatched to dealerships 3,05,406 units last month, as against 5,33,585 units in the year-ago period. The numbers aren't comparable since Hero shut four of its plants from April 17-19 for scheduled maintenance and supply chain alignment.

Production at the four plants---Dharuhera, Gurugram, Haridwar, and Neemrana---is expected to stabilise in May, the company said in an exchange filing on Friday.


Mahindra Tractor Sales Up 8% In April 2025

Total tractor sales of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. rose 8% year-on-year to 40,054 units in April 2025, as against 37,039 units in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing on Thursday.

  • Domestic tractor sales up 8% YoY at 38,516 units

  • Tractor exports up 25% YoY at 1,538 units

Bolstered by the Chaitra Navratri festival in the first week of April, retail momentum is very strong," Hemant Sikka, president - farm equipment sector at M&M, said in the statement. "This is well supported by good crop prices and high procurement at mandis, leading to good cash flows with farmers."

"IMD's prediction of above normal southwest monsoon is hugely positive for the overall agri economy and tractor industry. Financing continues to remain strong."


Mahindra SUV Sales Grow 28% In April 2025

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has yet again emerged as India's No.2 carmaker after its SUV sales grew by nearly a third in April 2025.

Sales of the Scorpio maker rose 28% year-on-year to 52,330 units last month, as against 41,008 units in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing on Thursday.

The LCV sales rose marginally to 22,989 units across three categories, as against 22,102 units in the year-ago period. The three-wheeler sales were equally muted with a 1% decline to 5,470 units.
