Markets On Home Turf

The benchmark indices on Monday extended their winning streak for the third consecutive session, closing in the green. The Nifty 50 closed 0.74% higher at 25,077.65 while Sensex closed 0.72% higher at 81,790.12.

The foreign portfolio investors on Monday stayed net sellers of Indian shares for the 10th consecutive session. The FPIs sold stocks worth approximately Rs 313.77 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange. The DIIs stayed net buyers for the 29th session and bought stake worth Rs 5,036.39 crore.

Wall Street Recap

US stocks closed at a record on Monday, powered by technology shares as investors disregard the government shutdown and instead cheer a multibillion-dollar infrastructure deal that signaled the artificial intelligence spending boom.

The S&P 500 rose 0.4% to notch its seventh straight session of gains for its longest winning streak since early May. The Nasdaq 100 advanced 0.8% but Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.14%.

Asia Market Update

Japanese shares extended their rally after the election of a pro-stimulus Sanae Takaichi as the country's next leader sent the yen sliding and drove up yields of long-tenure bonds. Australian equities fell. Chinese and South Korean markets are closed.

Commodities Check

Oil prices steadied after a two-day advance after OPEC+ agreed on a modest supply quota increase. Brent crude traded above $65 a barrel after a 1.5% gain on Monday, with West Texas Intermediate near $62. 

Gold clinched a fresh record high — pushing closer to $4,000 an ounce — as the US government shutdown and a political crisis in France injected more uncertainty into financial markets. Bullion rose to $3,977.44 an ounce after surging 1.9% on Monday.
