US Market Wrap

On the US market front, President Donald Trump has announced plans to name his pick for the next Federal Reserve chair in early 2026. In response, traders in US futures markets are gaming out a wide range of policy paths and favouring more interest rate cuts next year.

Wall Street staged a cautious rebound, with the S&P 500 stuck in a tight trading range despite a rally in cryptocurrencies that followed a rough start to December. Bonds and the dollar stabilised.

The S&P 500 rose to around 6,830. The Nasdaq 100 climbed almost 1%. The yield on 10-year Treasuries was little changed at 4.08%, as reported by Bloomberg.

Asian Market Update

Asian stocks traded within tight ranges early on Wednesday, mirroring similar moves on Wall Street, as investors awaited fresh catalysts while a rebound in cryptocurrencies lost steam.

Japanese indexes were mixed. S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures treaded water after the US benchmark capped its sixth advance in seven trading sessions on Tuesday.

Nikkei 225 futures (OSE) rose 0.8% while Japan’s Topix fell 0.2%. Even Hang Seng futures fell 0.5%, reports Bloomberg.

The rate of the white metal steadied at $58.47 an ounce as of 8:11 a.m. Singapore time after it hit an all-time high of $58.84 on Monday, reports Bloomberg.

Gold was flat at $4,208.54 an ounce after a two-day decline. Platinum and palladium dipped.

Oil prices are experiencing fluctuations due to ongoing developments in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and potential peace talks. West Texas Intermediate was below $59 a barrel after falling 1.2% on Tuesday. Brent closed near $62, as reported by Bloomberg.
