The NSE Nifty Metal index rose to the highest level in over two weeks as the Government of India introduced additional duties on steel imports from developed economies, China, and Vietnam. The move came amidst complains from Indian steel companies of dumping from South Korea, China, and Vietnam. The Nifty Metal was the top gainer among sectoral indices on National Stock Exchange Ltd.

The Government of India imposed provisional 12% safeguard duty on key steel products like hot rolled coils. It became effective from April 21 for 200 days.
