Samsung's Galaxy S26 lineup is expected to debut in January 2026. It is not known as of now if the smartphone maker will keep the Plus variant.

Ahead of the launch, many rumours are already doing the rounds on social media as fans speculate what to expect from the new lineup. One of the new rumours has hinted at a notable upgrade for the base model: a refreshed main camera sensor.

A report by GSMArena highlighted that while the resolution remains 50 MP, Samsung may finally retire the ISOCELL GN3 sensor. This feature powered the Galaxy S23 and S25.

This change could bring improvements in image quality, low-light performance, and overall camera capability. If true, this marks a significant shift in Samsung's approach to its flagship photography hardware. Fans are expecting that this move could potentially make the standard S26 a more compelling option.

The ISOCELL GN3 sensor is designed to capture clear fast-moving images in dark environments. It gives high quality photos and has a ‘Smart-ISO’ that helps illuminate details that might otherwise get lost.

However, Samsung may finally retire this sensor. With the new lineup, users can expect a new improved sensor from the same family. However, nothing has been made official yet.

An earlier report had also suggested that Galaxy S26 may come with a revamped telephoto setup. It is being speculated that the model might come with a combination of 3.5x and 8x lenses. Alternatively, it could also feature a single 200MP telephoto to handle longer zoom ranges through digital cropping.

With the rumours that Samsung won’t introduce a Plus variant, it is expected that S26 Edge will replace the S26 Plus in Samsung’s upcoming lineup. The S26 Edge may also feature a 200MP sensor, like its predecessor.

It is also being said that the new lineup could feature Exynos 2600 or Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset. It will likely run on One UI 8 on Android 16.
