In addition, Akshaya Tritiya also coincides with Basava Jayanti. Observed as an auspicious occasion for wealth and prosperity, Akshaya Tritiya is also a public holiday in many states.

Will Online Banking Services Be Available?

Although brick-and-mortar bank branches in Karnataka and several other states will be closed on April 30, digital banking services such as UPI, internet banking and ATM facilities will continue to function. Customers are still advised to confirm details with their respective local branches if they plan any in-person banking activity on the date.

Significance Of Basava Jayanti

Basava Jayanti commemorates the birth of Basavanna, a revered 12th-century philosopher, poet and social reformer. Recognised as the founder of the Lingayat faith, Basavanna is remembered for his teachings that promoted social equality, denounced caste discrimination and advocated for human rights.

The festival is mainly observed in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, regions where his influence remains deeply rooted. The day is marked by various religious and cultural events, including the recitation of Basavanna’s vachanas (poetic verses), public processions and special prayers.

Significance Of Akshaya Tritiya

Akshaya Tritiya is regarded as one of the most sacred days in both Hindu and Jain traditions. Falling on the third lunar day (tithi) of the Shukla Paksha of the Vaishakha month, the day is associated with prosperity. According to belief, any virtuous deed or investment made on this day yields everlasting benefits. Also known as Akti or Akha Teej, Akshaya Tritiya is traditionally seen as a favourable time to buy gold, symbolising wealth and financial stability.
