Most US Futures Rise Before US PPI Data 

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures rose 0.82% and 1.77% higher, respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average future declined 0.22%.

Nifty, Sensex Settle At Over One–Week Low; RIL, L&T Share Prices Drag: Market Wrap

The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex ended at the lowest level in over a week as Reliance Industries Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd. and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. dragged.

The Nifty 50 ended 93.10 points or 0.38% down at 24,548.70. The Sensex ended 236.18 points or 0.29% down at 81,289.96. In last two session, the Nifty 50 and Sensex ended on a muted note due to lack of significant cues.

The Nifty 50 declined as much as 0.46% to 24,528.00, and the Sensex fell 0.37% to 81,212.90.

HDFC Bank Ltd. share price declined 0.77% to Rs 1,848.70 apiece. It fell after Securities and Exchange Board of India issued a warning letter. The warning letter alleged non–compliance with certain provisions of the regulator.

"The Index started the weekly expiry trade on a tepid note and gradually compounded its losses to retest its strong support zone of 24,500-24,550 before settling the day at 24,548.70 with a loss of 93.10 points," said Aditya Gaggar, director, Progressive Shares.

Barring IT and Metal, all the other sectors ended the day in red with Media and FMCG being the major laggards. Today's fall was triggered due to profit booking in the Broader market segment as Mid and Smallcaps corrected by 0.46% & 0.97%. Nifty50 has made a bearish candle at the lower end of consolidation and the activity of tomorrow's trade will provide better clarity. On the downside, immediate support is at 24,500 followed by 24,430, 50–day moving average whereas the higher side seems to be capped at 24,690, Gaggar said.

Reliance Industries Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Hindustan Unilever Ltd., NTPC Ltd., and ITC Ltd. weighed on the index.

Bharti Airtel Ltd., Infosys Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., Tech Mahindra Ltd., and ICICI Bank Ltd. added to the Nifty 50 index.

On NSE, 10 sectors declined, and two advanced. The NSE Nifty Media declined the most. The NSE Nifty IT was the best performing sector. Earlier in the session, the Nifty IT rose to the record high.

Broader indices underperformed. BSE Midcap closed 0.6% down and BSE Smallcap fell 1%.

Except BSE IT, Utilitiles, and Teck, all sectoral indices closed lower.

Market breadth was skewed in the favour of sellers. Around 2,508 stocks fell, 1,491 rose, and 106 remained unchanged on the BSE.

Rupee Closes Weaker Against US Dollar

Rupee closed 3 paise lower at 84.87 against the US dollar. It closed at 84.84 on Wednesday, according to data Bloomberg.

Stock Market Today: Goldman Sachs On Container Corp

Goldman Sachs has maintained a "Sell" rating on Container Corp of India, with a revised target price of Rs 710, down from the previous target of Rs 851, indicating a potential downside of 16%. The firm believes that the company’s earnings may face further downside due to weak growth in rail traffic. Concerns about Container Corp market share persist amid increasing competition, and there are ongoing worries about potential earnings downgrades.

Despite the recent correction in the stock price, Goldman Sachs sees additional downside risks. They also note that Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd.'s dominant presence in the port sector could allow them to capture market share from incumbents like Container Corp of India. Furthermore, even after the correction, the stock is trading at 20.5x FY26 EV/EBITDA, which is above the long-term median multiple of 18.5x.

Stock Market Live Updates Today: Nifty, Sensex Open Flat; HDFC Bank, RIL Top Draggers

The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex opened on a muted note Thursday. HDFC Bank Ltd. and Reliance Industries Ltd. were top draggers. As of 09:19 a.m., the Nifty 50 was trading 5.25 points or 0.02% higher at 24,647.05, and the Sensex was trading 51.04 points or 0.06% higher at 81,577.18.

The Nifty 50 index has remained tightly range-bound, oscillating within a 300-point band over the past four sessions. However, given the volatility witnessed during the last weekly expiry, it's expected that the trend to persist as market participants adapt to SEBI’s revised expiry norms. Nifty is likely to trade within the range of 24,200 to 24,850, said IFA Global Research Academy in a quote.

Meanwhile, Bank Nifty underperformed in the previous session and appears to be taking a breather. We anticipate it to trade between 52,800 and 53,800, IFA Global Research Academy said.

HDFC Bank Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Reliance Industries Ltd., Trent Ltd., and Tata Motors Ltd. weighed on the Nifty 50 index.

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd., Infosys Ltd., Tech Mahindra Ltd., and Hindalco Industries Ltd. added to the Nifty 50 index.

On NSE, five sectors advanced, six declined and one remained flat out of 12. The NSE Nifty IT rose the most, and the NSE Nifty Media declined the most.

Broader markets were trading on a muted note. The BSE Midcap was 0.07% higher, and the BSE Smallcap was 0.03% down.

On BSE, 13 sectors declined, eight sectors advanced out of 12. The BSE Focused IT rose the most, and the BSE Auto declined the most.

Market breadth was skewed in favour of buyers. Around 1,616 stocks advanced, 1,324 stocks declined, and 104 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.

At pre–open, the NSE Nifty 50 was trading 37.35 points or 0.15% down at 24,604.45, and the BSE Sensex was trading 0.06% or 49.38 points down at 81,476.76.

The yield on the 10-year bond opened flat at 6.72%. It closed at 6.71% on Wednesday, according to Bloomberg.

Most Asian Stocks Rise As US CPI Meets Estimates

Most Asian stocks rose on Thursday, taking cues from overnight moves on Wall Street. The US CPI rose 0.3% in November in line with estimates, which affirmed the expectation of 25–basis–point rate cut by the US Federal Reserve.

The Nikkei 225 and KOSPI indices ended 1.52% and 0.56% higher, respectively. The S&P ASX 200 ended 0.17% down.

The NSE Nifty 50 snapped its three-session fall and the BSE Sensex rose for the second consecutive day on Wednesday ahead of the US inflation data later in the day and from India a day later.

The Nifty ended 31.75 points or 0.13% higher at 24,641.8 and the Sensex closed 16.09 points or 0.02% up at 81,526.14.
