Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and Vedanta Ltd. Chairman Anil Agarwal are among the Indian-origin leaders that are running 200 most valuable companies in the world, with a combined $10 trillion, according to a report.
The 'HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024' includes 226 CEOs, managing directors, and founders from 200 companies, all based outside of India.
Nadella leads the ranking, followed by Pichai, and Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube.
The combined value of the top 10 individuals accounts for 73% of the total cumulative value of the list, which is $10 trillion. Notably, five companies in the list belong to the software and services sector like Microsoft, Adobe and Google.
Overall, the list is dominated by the software and services industry, with 87 companies represented, followed by financial services with 24 entrants and healthcare with 21 companies.
The average age of the individuals on the list is 56 years. Tanay Tandon, co-founder and CEO of healthcare technology company Commure, is the youngest entrant on the list, at just 27-years old.
Indian-origin businesspersons have founded 73 global unicorns, the report highlighted.
The contributions of women leaders on the list are remarkable, with Neha Narkhede (Confluent), Anjali Sud (Tubi), Yamini Rangan (HubSpot), Leena Nair (Chanel), and Revathi Advaithi (Flex) collectively leading companies valued at $436 billion.
The 2024 Hurun India Rich List also features 101 NRIs, with nearly 79% of them being self-made. The US tops the list, as the most favoured destination, hosting 46 entrants, followed by the UAE and the UK.
San Francisco is the most preferred city for global Indians, with 37 individuals featured on the list, which has a cut-off wealth of $1 billion.
Lakshmi Mittal and family lead, with a fortune of Rs 1.84 lakh crore, closely followed by Gopichand Hinduja and family with Rs 1.78 lakh crore.
Among states, Tamil Nadu has the highest representation on the list, with 27 leaders, including Sundar Pichai. Punjab followed with 22 notable figures, such as Sanjiv Lamba, CEO of Linde, while Maharashtra contributes 21 leaders, including Reshma Kewalramani of Vertex Pharmaceuticals.
