Flipkart Mandates Five Days Work From Office For All Employees

Walmart-owned e-commerce firm Flipkart has called its employees back to office five days a week, an email sent to the staff shows. This comes as the industry is rolling back the work-from-home policy, which gained prominence during the Covid-19 period.

The work-from-office mandate has been effective from the first of April, with all employees asked in the email to return to office on all business days. “This decision to adopt a work-from-office model is a step towards fostering deeper collaboration, a sense of community and a shared focus on our goals,” the email read. 

In the recent past, Flipkart’s peers in the industry - Amazon and Meesho have already rolled back work-from-home option. Employees NDTV Profit spoke to said that while all employees were asked to return to office for five days, employees in the junior level were mandated three days work from office.

The leads of various internal teams, who had already resumed work from office, will continue to operate from their workplaces on all five days, they added.

“The past year, we have been pursuing a gradual return to office. We are happy to see increased interactions, synergies, and deeper cooperation across the floors with more employees and teams coming into the office,” the email read. With this, Flipkart noted that it will be moving back to its pre-Covid construct.

Flipkart recently has geared up to join the quick commerce frenzy in India with Flipkart Minutes in November 2024, initially piloting in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. Minutes will now compete with Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, Big Basket Now, and Blinkit—platforms which have been operational for longer and have sizable market footprint now.
