Be it celebrations, a mid-night craving or just comfort food during bad days, food delivery apps have become a go to for ordering food.
And biryani continues to be the most cherished dish for Indians this year too as the country's affair with the food has continued for the ninth year, Swiggy revealed in its ninth annual report, How India Swiggy'd in 2024.
India ordered 83 million biryanis from Swiggy at an average of 158 per minute or rather two every second. In fact, during Ramazan, 15% of the orders were for biryani.
When it comes to the midnight cravings, chicken burger topped the charts with 1.84 million orders between midnight and 2 a.m. Chicken biryani was a close second and continued to be the evergreen superstar.
Among quick bites, chicken roll was the most ordered dish with 2.48 million deliveries this year. Among other quick bites, 1.63 million chicken momos were delivered, while 1.3 million fries were delivered.
Amid a non-veg dominated food menu, dosa stood out with 23 million orders making it the second highest ordered food on Swiggy. In breakfast items, south Indian dishes were the favourtie with 8.5 million dosas and 7.8 idlis delivered.

While Bengaluru enjoyed 2.5 million masala dosas in 2024, Shillong favoured noodles over momos as it was the most ordered dish of 2024 in the city.
Sweet like cake were also amid the most ordered dishes of the year. Choco lava cake was ordered 3.6 million times, whereas chocolates truffle cake was ordered 2.27 million times. The love for cake was the highest on Mothers Day, making it the unofficial cakes day for India.
