Apple CEO Tim Cook, during the earnings call for the second fiscal of 2025, addressed the delay in more personalised Siri features supported by Apple Intelligence that were announced last year. Cook stated that although progress is being made, the Cupertino tech major needs more time to make sure Siri satisfies its quality standards.
Cook said during the earnings call, “With regard to the more personal Siri features we announced, we need more time to complete our work on these features so they meet our high-quality bar. We are making progress, and we look forward to getting these features into customers’ hands.”
Siri And The Long Wait
A more customised Siri was expected to be included in an iOS 18 upgrade after Apple announced it during WWDC 2024. However, almost a year after that preview, Siri has only seen a few minor updates, such as a redesigned UI, a Type to Siri function, and the capacity to respond to follow-up queries. In March this year, Apple stated there might be a delay because more time was required for its development.
Since declaring the delay, this is the first time Apple has discussed the more personalised Siri capabilities in public. Other than stating that the features will be available “in the coming year", the company has not given a precise release date.
During the call, Cook did highlight other Apple Intelligence features that the company has released since last year. “Since we launched iOS 18, we’ve released a number of Apple Intelligence features, from helpful Writing Tools to Genmoji, Image Playground, Image Wand, Clean Up, Visual Intelligence, and a seamless connection to ChatGPT. We made it possible for users to create movies of their memories with a simple prompt and added AI-powered photo search, smart replies, priority summaries for Mail, Messages, and more.”
What Does Personalised Siri Entail And When Will It Arrive?
On-screen awareness, in-app actions, and understanding personal context are some of the features anticipated in a more personalised Siri. A more significant update to Siri is now expected as part of iOS 19, which itself is not expected to be released until later this year. It is also not clear whether advanced Siri features will be part of the first iOS 19 version or later updates.
Looking at the current state of delay, it might not come as a surprise that a more personalised Siri shows its face well into 2026.
