Google Pixel 9A To Arrive In India On April 16; Check Camera, Specs And Other Details

Google has launched its latest mid-range smartphone, the Pixel 9A. Priced at $499 (around Rs 43,000), it’s positioned between budget and premium offerings. The device is already available in select regions and is set to come to India on April 16.

The 9A brings several key upgrades while maintaining a competitive price tag. It doesn’t offer all the features of the more expensive Pixel 9, but for many users, especially those already in Google’s ecosystem, it strikes a solid balance.

A notable strength of the Pixel 9A is its integration with other Google products. Devices like the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Buds connect quickly and reliably. Features like Fast Pair work consistently, making daily use smoother for Android users.

The Pixel 9A features a 6.3-inch OLED display, slightly larger than its predecessor. Google claims it is 35 per cent brighter than the earlier A-series model, and real-world use confirms good visibility even in bright conditions, according to a report in The Verge. The design includes a new flush camera module and introduces a standout “peony” pink colour variant. With an IP68 rating, the phone is now more resistant to dust and water. Wireless charging, though limited to 7.5W, adds a layer of convenience.

Powered by the Tensor G4 chip and 8GB RAM, the 9A handles multitasking and graphic-heavy apps smoothly. It’s not a performance leader, but it is reliable for everyday use. The 5,100 mAh battery — the largest ever in a Pixel phone — offers all-day usage in moderate conditions. Google's commitment to seven years of software support is a key differentiator in this price range.

The phone comes equipped with a 48 MP main camera, a 13 MP ultrawide and a 13 MP front camera. This is a strong setup for the price, particularly compared to rivals like the Apple iPhone 16E, which costs more and includes fewer sensors. But performance in low-light conditions is underwhelming, and some images appear flat or over-processed, states The Verge report. Features like “Best Take” and “Add Me” provide creative flexibility, but the camera system overall has clear limitations.

The Pixel 9A includes scaled-down versions of Google's AI tools found in its flagship models. Features like face unlock and voice commands through Gemini Live add convenience without overcomplicating the interface. These AI additions contribute to a smoother user experience, especially during day-to-day tasks.
