AI Impacts Everyone—From Students To CFOs
Why is artificial intelligence the most important technology trend of our lives? Because of the ways in which AI impacts our lives. From generating images on the fly for a varsity project, preventing fraud at banks to personalised medicine, the use cases are transformative and life-altering. Many other technology shifts are abstract to the average user. For instance, cloud computing made Gmail possible, and Software as a Service has transformed how technology can be accessed, but you and I are often blind to this tectonic shift.
AI on the other hand has changed how we do things. Creating an image or altering a photograph required skills and specialised software earlier. But today with AI, all it takes is a command and AI serves up what we desire. Smartphones are a great example. AI has been used in smartphones for years now, especially to "beautify" photographs, but today, AI has gone far beyond—making us more productive, helping us write and create in a much better way than ever before.
Apple, Google and Samsung have led AI-integration in smartphones. I've especially loved the AI capabilities on the Google Pixel 9. From nifty features like Add me, which uses AR and AI to create group shots, to Pixel Studio, Magic Editor and more. The one I use daily though is the custom weather report on the Pixel weather app. It’s become a habit once I realised how useful it was.
Apple's iOS 18.2 update just dropped a new set of creative AI features that everyone can try if they have the latest iPhones. From Image Playground that generates creative images in two forms to Genmoji, the cool Image Wand feature and the Describe Your Change option in writing tools. Check out this story which breaks down how you can use these features:
Five Creative AI Features To Try With Apple’s iOS 18.2 Update
It is also becoming easier to communicate with GenAI tools. While this feature is currently available only in the US and Canada, it should come to our part of the world in some time.

And in news that should make cost-conscious CFOs happier, Gartner reports that by 2027, 40% of all customer service issues will be fully resolved by unofficial third-party tools powered by gen AI. Basically, as more intelligence is added to tools like Google Search and we use ChatGPT or Apple Intelligence, added to the fact that customers are far more familiar with these apps as opposed to first-party apps, dependence on official first party customer service will decline.
But before you celebrate possible cost savings, the fact is that while volumes may decrease, companies will need to invest on answering sophisticated queries that third-party options may struggle with and create differentiated self-service experiences. And they need to closely monitor the quality of information available on third-party options because the last thing you need is wrong information that inadvertently ruins your customer's experience with your brand.
