Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie beat Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2 at the box office in the Independence Day clash. Coolie earned around Rs 65 crore (India net) on its first day across all languages, while Yash Raj Films’ War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan, Telugu star Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, collected around Rs 52.5 crore (India net) on its first day across all languages, industry tracker Sacnilk reported on Friday.
Both highly anticipated films witnessed significant advance bookings for their opening day shows and enjoyed a phenomenal start across India, but Rajinikanth’s stardom appears to give an edge to 'Coolie', particularly in the southern markets.
Rajinikanth-Amir Khan's action thriller 'Coolie' earned around Rs 65 crore, India net on its first day for all languages. Telugu occupancy led the ticket sales with an overall 92.10% occupancy on Aug.14. Followed by Tamil occupancy with an overall 86.99% occupancy, 35.66% Hindi occupancy and 71.37% Kannada occupancy.
As of now on Day 2, Coolie earned around Rs 3.09 crore India net for all languages.

War 2 earned around Rs 52.5 crore India net on its first day for all languages. Telugu occupancy led Yash Raj Films' 'War 2' on Day one, with 74.97% occupancy. Followed by 70.5% Telugu (4Dx) occupancy, 56.5% Hindi (4DX) occupancy, 56.33% Telugu (IMAX 2D) occupancy, and overall 45% Telugu (ICE) occupancy.
According to Sacnilk, War 2 had an overall 42.41% Tamil occupancy, 38.69% Hindi (Imax 2D) occupancy, and 30.06% Hindi (ICE) occupancy. The Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR starrer had an overall 29.24% Hindi occupancy on Aug. 14 and an overall 15.33% Hindi (Dolby Cine) occupancy.
As of now on Day 2, War 2 has earned around Rs 1.17 crore India net for all languages.
'Coolie' directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, features Rajinikanth and other key actors including Amir Khan and Nagarjuna Akkineni recorded a phenomenal start in advance bookings across India. Ahead of its release, the movie had collected Rs 27.01 crore with 12.24 lakh advance tickets sold. These tickets range across different languages and have been sold for 10,322 shows nationwide, industry tracker Sacnilk reported on Wednesday.
On the other hand, 'War 2' had also seen a strong first-day advance booking of Rs 9.8 crore, selling 3.46 lakh tickets across 13,748 shows nationwide, as per the Sacnilk data.
