IMD Issues Thunderstorm Warning Across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar On May 6-7

After two days of intense rainfall, light rain is likely in Mumbai on May 8. Following this dry weather with partly cloudy sky-like conditions is expected.

In Mumbai, a yellow alert has been issued for today and tomorrow, anticipating “thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rainfall & gusty winds.

Multiple districts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Pune, Nasik, among others, are on a yellow or orange alert till tomorrow in view of the heavy rainfall anticipated in the state.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin shared on Tuesday, most districts will be on a yellow alert till Wednesday, after which light rainy conditions are expected.

In Mumbai, a yellow alert has been issued for today and tomorrow, anticipating “thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rainfall & gusty winds (30-40kmph) at isolated places,” the weather body said.

As per IMD's latest update, Mumbai and its suburban areas are less likely to witness thunderstorms and rains on May 6. But neighbouring cities of Thane and Palghar continue to be on yellow alert with the possibility of light thunderstorms during the night.

“Partly cloudy sky with possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with light to moderate rain in towards afternoon and evening. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius,” the IMD predicted for Mumbai for Tuesday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures will mildly dip within the next 48 hours, it added.

Yellow Alert For Thane; Orange Alert In Pune, Nasik

Other coastal districts of Maharashtra, such as Palghar, Ratnagiri, Raigad and Thane, are also on a yellow alert till tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Dhule, Nasik, Pune, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, are on an orange alert for today as the IMD has predicted “thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, gusty winds (50- 60 kmph) and hail at isolated places,” for these districts. 

Similar weather conditions will continue in Nasik, Jalgaon, Pune, Satara, Sambhaji Nagar, Jalna and Beed on Wednesday. Largely, east and central Maharashtra districts may receive hailstorm at isolated locations on May 7.

“Fall in maximum temperature over Maharashtra region by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius for the next three days and gradual rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius thereafter,” the IMD said, adding that no large change in minimum temperature is expected over the region in the next four to five days.
