Banks in most parts of India will remain closed on April 18 on the occasion of Good Friday. On Good Friday, Christians remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Good Friday is also referred to as Holy Friday or Black Friday, reflecting its significance as a sacred and solemn occasion in the Christian faith. The crucifixion is considered a pivotal moment in Christian theology, symbolising the ultimate sacrifice for the salvation of humanity.
It is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday and is a time of reflection and mourning for Christians.
Bank Holiday On Good Friday
According to the Reserve Bank Of India's holiday calendar, banks will remain closed on April 18 in Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, New Delhi, Goa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Meghalaya.
Banks will remain open in Tripura, Assam, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh.
Those with pending bank-related work are advised to contact their nearest branch in advance to avoid any last-minute inconvenience. With Friday being a holiday, many may also be curious about bank operations over the weekend.
Will Banks Remain Open On Saturday, April 19?
Banks in India are usually open on the first, third, and fifth (if applicable) Saturdays of the month unless a holiday falls on those days. Since April 19 is the third Saturday of the month, and no holiday has been marked for this day, banks will remain open on April 19.
After that, banks will remain closed on April 20 as it is a Sunday.
Will Banks Remain Open on April 21?
As per the RBI holiday calendar, banks will remain closed in Tripura on April 21 to mark the celebration of Garia Puja. In the rest of the country, banks will be open.
Bank Holidays in April 2025
Till now, Aprril has seen bank holidays on April 1, 5, 7, 10, 14, 15, and 16. After April 18, the RBI has listed three more bank holidays for the month.
April 21 - Garia Puja (Only in Tripura)
April 29 - Bhagwan Shri Parshuram Jayanti (Only in Himachal Pradesh)
April 30 - Basava Jayanti / Akshaya Tritiy (Only in Karnataka)
On bank holidays, you can continue using essential banking services such as net banking, UPI, ATM withdrawals, opening fixed deposits, and applying for loans through online platforms. These services remain accessible via your bank’s official website and mobile app.
