Your Guide To FII Positions For Feb. 19 Trade

Foreign portfolio investors turned net buyers of Indian equities on Tuesday after nine straight sessions of selling. They turned net buyers of index and stock options, and sellers of index and stock futures.

FIIs In Cash Market

Foreign portfolio investors turned net buyers of Indian equities on Tuesday after nine straight sessions of selling as they mopped up stocks worth approximately Rs 4,786.6 crore.

Domestic institutional investors stayed net buyers for the 10th straight session as they bought equities worth Rs 3,072.2 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

As per the NSE data, the FPIs bought stocks worth Rs 14,537.7 crore and sold equities worth Rs 9,751.1 crore.

Data on buying and selling into individual stocks was not available. However, in a block deal, Bharti Airtel Ltd.'s promoter—Mauritius-based Indian Continent Investment Ltd—offloaded 51.1 million shares for Rs 8,485 crore, with Bharti Telecom Ltd. acquiring 12 million shares of the firm.

FIIs In Futures And Options 

Ahead of the Feb. 27 expiry, the value of outstanding positions — also called open interest in the derivatives segment — has decreased for the FIIs in the Nifty futures. The FIIs' long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 15:85.

The FIIs bought index options worth Rs 1,717.6 crore and stock options worth Rs 886.3 crore. They sold index futures worth Rs 303.4 crore and stock futures worth Rs 96.8 crore.

FII Contract Value

The value of the total Nifty 50 futures open interest in the market decreased by Rs 1,040.99 crore at the end of February expiry, from Rs 39,589.98 crore a day earlier to Rs 38,548.99 crore.

F&O Cues 

The Nifty February futures were down by 0.34% to 22,948.10, at a premium of 27 points, with the open interest down by 2.4%.

The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 Feb. 20 expiry series indicated most activity at 26,500 call strikes, with the 23,000 put strikes having maximum open interest.

Long-Short Ratio 

The total long-short ratio for foreign investors rose to 1.20 from 1.19.
