Stock Market Today: All You Need To Know Going Into Trade On Dec. 16

Most indices in Asia gave up their early gains and traded with little change. At 7:13 a.m., Japan's Nikkei, Hong Kong's Hang Seng, and South Korea's Kospi were flat, while Australia's ASX 200 fell 0.3%.

In US on Friday, S&P 500 closed flat at 6,051.09, Dow Jones down 0.20% at 43,828.06, and Nasdaq Composite closed up 0.12% at 19,926.72.

At 7:17 a.m., GIFT Nifty was at 24,773.50 up by 16.5 points or 0.1%.

The benchmark equity indices recorded a fourth straight week of gains as they ended higher after a volatile trading session on Friday. The NSE Nifty 50 ended 219.60 points or 0.89% higher at 24,768.30, and the BSE Sensex closed 843.16 points or 1.04% up at 82,133.12.

Overseas investors turned net buyers of Indian equities on Friday after two consecutive days of selling, while domestic institutional investors turned net sellers after three days of buying. Foreign portfolio investors bought stocks worth Rs 2,335.3 crore, whereas the DIIs offloaded stocks worth Rs 732.2 crore, according to provisional data shared by the National Stock Exchange.

The Indian currency strengthened 8 paise to close at 84.79 against the dollar.

  • Jubilant Foodworks: Company initiated voluntary liquidation proceedings for Hashtag Loyalty Pvt., an associate of the company. Shareholding in Hashtag is 31.66%. Investment valued at Rs 25 crore in the standalone financial statement of the company.

  • Godavari Biorefineries: Company announces capacity addition of 200 KLPD Corn/grain- based Distillery by Q4 FY 2026. Capacity addition to come at an investment of Approximately Rs 130 crore to be funded through a mix of Internal accruals and Debt. Company disclosed the rationale for capacity addition being Augmentation of Ethanol Capacity with alternate feedstock for distillery operation.

  • Dixon Technologies: Company signed a binding term sheet with vivo Mobile India Private Limited (“vivo India”) to form a joint venture for carrying out the OEM business of electronic devices including smartphones.

  • ONGC: Company clarified that there are no concrete plans yet for listing ONGC Green; decision remains for the future.

  • GE Power: Company got Rs 18.3 crore purchase order extension for boiler parts supply to MP Power Generating.

  • Biocon: European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has issued a positive opinion recommending approval of YESINTEK, an Ustekinumab biosimilar for arthritis treatment.

  • Waaree Energies: Waaree Power Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of the company, will invest Rs 5.5 crore to acquire 55 lakh shares in Ewaa Renewable Techno Solutions, an electronics manufacturing firm specializing in solar on-grid inverters. This partnership aims to strengthen Waaree’s power electronics capabilities, foster innovation, and support localized manufacturing for global markets.

  • 63 Moons Technologies: The board of the company has approved a Rs 1,950 crore One-Time Settlement proposal by the NSEL Investors Forum. The proposal, supported by the majority of unpaid claimants in both number and value, will now be filed before the appropriate judicial forum for settlement proceedings.

  • Afcons Infra: Company won Rs 1,007 crore EPC order from Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Company.

  • Samvardhan Motherson: Board approves acquisition Brazil-based Baldi Industria E Comercio for $7.8 million in a cash transaction. Acquired company posted revenue of $11.3 million with Ebitda margin of 10.7% in CY23.

  • IRB Infrastructure: Board approves implementation of Ganga Expressway Project. The Company has been and will continue to also act as the Project Manager for the Project.

  • HBL Power: Company received Rs 1,522 cr order from Chittaranjan Locomotive Works for supply, Installation and Commissioning of on-Board Train Collision Avoidance System in 2,200 locomotives.

  • Happy Forgings: Secured Rs 140 crore order to supply crankshafts for domestic passenger vehicles segment

  • Sula Vineyards: The board approved the appointment of Gorakh Gaikwad as chief operating officer, effective Dec. 21.

  • One 97 Communications: The company completed the sale of stock acquisition rights in Japan-based Paypay Corp.

  • KSB: The company launches a reciprocating pump in the plunger pump category.

  • Genus Power Infrastructure: The company commenced commercial production at a new manufacturing facility in Assam.

  • Central Bank of India: The government nominated Manoranjan Dash as the director on Board with immediate effect.

  • 360 One WAM: The company's arm completed the acquisition of shares of Maple Infra InvIT Investment Manager.

  • Lemon Tree Hotels: The company signed a licence agreement for a 74-room hotel in Gujarat.

  • HG Infra Engineering: The company’s arm received a letter of acceptance from the NHAI for an order worth Rs 862 crore. It has also transferred 26% of its partial stake from each subsidiary to Stockwell Solar Projects.

  • Max Financial Services: Axis Max Life has been rebranded to Axis Max Life Insurance.

  • Lupin: The company announced the acquisition of anti-diabetes trademarks from Boehringer Ingelheim International GmbH to strengthen its diabetes portfolio in the country. As per the agreement, the trademark rights for these brands will be transferred to Lupin by March next year.

  • JK Paper: The board approved the composite scheme of arrangement between the company and five others and approved the acquisition of a majority stake in Radhesham Wellpack. The company entered a share purchase agreement with RWPL.

  • Jaiprakash Power Ventures: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has granted a stay on penalties totaling approximately Rs 1,334 crore imposed on the company by the Department of Mines and Geology. These penalties were related to allegations of illegal sand extraction, storage, transportation, and sale.

  • Power Grid Corp: The company to consider the issue of unsecured, NCDs under private placement.

  • Globus Spirits: The company announced the launch of its brands Globus Spirits Shola Shabnam and Globus Spirits Nimboo in Uttar Pradesh priced at Rs 50-70 for 180ml available in aseptic brick packs. The entry into this segment and in this state demonstrates that the company is growing its share of business in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

  • JSW Energy: Maharashtra State Electricity Discom Co. files petition before MERC, challenging the invoices raised by it. Earlier, the company had filed a petition before MERC for recovery of invoices from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission.

  • Bharat Forge: The board approved the additional investment in Kalyani Powertrain by way of the right issue. The company's arm entered into a cornerstone investment agreement to acquire 25% of Edgelab for €2.5 million.

  • Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders: The company issued a clarification on news reports in mainstream media regarding the six submarines under Project P751. The company said that the company has not received any communication in this regard from the Indian Navy or the Ministry of Defence.

  • Adani Green Energy: The company’s arm, Adani Renewable Energy Holding Nine, incorporated wholly owned subsidiary Adani Green Energy Sixty-Nine Ltd.

  • GMM Pfaudler: Manish Poddar resigned as the chief financial officer, effective Feb. 7, while Alexander Poemper was appointed as the group CFO and KMP, effective Feb. 7. The company has closed the glass-lined manufacturing operations in Hyderabad and decided to consolidate them with the operations in Karamsad to improve capacity utilisation and reduce costs.

  • Reliance Industries: The company acquired a 74% stake in Navi Mumbai IIA for Rs 1,628 crore.

  • Infosys: The company to invest in healthcare and life sciences startup, 4baseCare, as part of Infosys Innovation Fund.

  • Sun Pharma: The Mumbai Customs Department imposed a redemption fine of Rs 40 lakh for confiscation of imported goods.

  • Premier Explosives: The company entered a memorandum of understanding with Global Munition, a subsidiary of NIBE Ordnance and Maritime, to set up a joint venture to manufacture defence and aerospace products. In the proposed joint venture, Global Munition and Premier Explosives will hold equity in the ratio of 51 :49.

  • Bank Of Baroda: The company will consider and approve the raising of long-term bonds for financing Infrastructure and affordable housing.

  • Aurobindo Pharma: The company's arm CuraTeQ Biologics announced that the committee for medicinal products for human use within the European Medicines Agency has adopted a positive opinion for Zefylti (BP13, a filgrastim biosimilar), recommending the granting of a marketing authorisation.

  • Nazara Technologies: The company's arm, Nodwin, acquired a 100% stake in Trinity Gaming India.

  • Navin Fluorine International: Amrit Singh, CEO- Specialty Business, has resigned from the services of the company, effective Feb 10. Managing Director Nitin Kulkarni will directly oversee the specialty business with the assistance of relevant team members.

  • PVR Inox: The company opened a six-screen multiplex at the Mall of Dehradun, in Uttarakhand.

  • Elcid Investments: The company submitted an application with the RBI for registering its NBFC as Type-I NBFC-ND.

Money Market

The Indian rupee strengthened eight paise to close at 84.79 against the dollar on Friday. It opened flat at 84.86 against the greenback, according to Bloomberg data. The domestic current had closed at 84.87 on Thursday.

Last week, however, the rupee had shown signs of stabilising, supported by the Reserve Bank of India’s decision to maintain steady interest rates and implement measures to enhance liquidity in the market.
