Closing Bell: Nifty, Sensex End Higher 

Gains in information technology stocks powered Indian benchmarks higher in the last two hours as US President Donald Trump's plans for artificial intelligence offset trade tariff risks.

The S&P BSE Sensex closed 566 points or 0.75% up at 76,404, while the NSE Nifty 50 was 130.7 points or 0.57% higher at 23,135.5. Intraday, the NSE Nifty 50 rose 0.63% to 23,169.5, and the S&P BSE Sensex advanced 0.82% to 76,463.1.

Technically, after the intraday correction, the Nifty found support near 23,000 and bounced back sharply, Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities, said. "However, the short-term trend of the market remains weak."

Trump pushed to make the US an AI superpower by having fewer guardrails. He halted the implementation of key safety and transparency requirements for AI developers.

IT bellwethers Infosys Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., and Wipro led the gain in the Nifty in early trade. All three companies surged over 2% during the session, while Tech Mahindra shares rose over 1%.

Stocks in China fell after Trump said he was still considering a 10% tariff on all goods from the country. Health care and technology stocks were among the biggest gainers in Europe. Futures on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 hinted at a strong start for Wall Street.

For day traders, 23000 (Nifty) / 75850 (Sensex) would act as a crucial support zone, Chouhan said. If the index stays above this level, the pullback formation is likely to continue, he said.

Infosys Ltd., HDFC Bank Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., led the advance in Nifty 50 index.

Tata Motors Ltd., Bharat Electronics Ltd., Axis Bank Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd. and Trent Ltd. weighed on the benchmark index.

Nine out of the 12 sectors on the NSE declined, with Nifty realty and Nifty Media falling the most on Wednesday. Nifty IT rose the most in trade.

On BSE, 15 sectors declined, and six advanced out of 21. The BSE Focused IT rose the most, while the BSE Realty declined the most.

Broader markets underperformed benchmark indices. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were trading 1.20% and 1.56% down, respectively.

Market breadth was skewed in favour of sellers. Around 2,799 stocks declined, 1,149 stocks advanced, and 11 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.

Shares of HDFC Bank Ltd. spiked on Wedneday after the lender reported an in-line profit growth in the third-quarter of the current financial year.

Forward looking indicators such as deal wins and employee additions remain weak “for almost every company in the sector”, Citi Research said in a note. The analysts retained a “cautious” view on the tech services sector in India due to margin pressure and a slower recovery in growth during coming quarters.

Stock Of The Day: Three-Day Fall Takes India Cements To Lowest In Six Months

The selloff seen in the stock of The India Cements Ltd. extended to day three with the shares down over 15% to a six-month low on Wednesday. The stock fell despite reporting a net profit of Rs 116.52 crore in the third quarter.

Shares of the cement maker kept testing the life-high level since the beginning of the year but took a nosedive on Nov. 20. The stock currently finds support near the crucial 200-day moving average at the Rs 317 mark. A break out of this level could send the stock to the psychologically important Rs 300 mark.

The scrip currently is below the 14-day simple moving average and the 21-day exponential moving average. The stock has risen by 30% in 2025. The stock zoomed over 115% in July to September last year, before giving up gains slightly.

India Cements stock fell as much as 10.7% during the day to Rs 311.2 apiece on the NSE, compared to a 0.29% advance in the benchmark Nifty 50 as of 11:00 a.m. The total traded volume so far in the day stood at 3.6 times its 30-day average. The relative strength index was at 17, implying the stock is oversold .

None of the seven analysts tracking the company have a 'buy' rating on the stock, one suggests a 'hold' and six have a 'sell', according to Bloomberg data. The average of 12-month analyst price targets implies a potential upside of 5.4%.

The shares of IndiaMart InterMesh Ltd. fell 10% to hit over two-year low on Wednesday, after brokerages remained bearish post its third quarter result. This comes following a weaker-than-expected quarterly performance and concerning trends in its subscriber base.

Nuvama and Nomura reduced the target price, citing factors such as decline in paid subscribers, weak customer additions, and elevated churn rates. While Nomura cut the target price to Rs 1,900, Nuvama has cut it to Rs 1,970 apiece.

Stock Market Live: Reliance Industries Target Cut By Morgan Stanley

Reliance Industries Ltd. received a target price cut by Morgan Stanley, adding to the woes that the stock of Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate faces. It however remains bullish on its new energy and Al infrastructure business saying, "it remains underappreciated."

The new energy powering Reliance Industries' generative Al infrastructure will likely become a large driver of earnings, Morgan Stanley said in a note. The brokerage retained an 'overweight' rating on the stock and lowered the target price to Rs 1,606 apiece from the earlier Rs 1,662 per share.

The company is transitioning into a new energy company to power Al and provide India with the infrastructure for the new tech era, Morgan Stanley said. "While many investors are focusing on retail multiples and refining/chemical earnings, we see them finding a floor on our new estimates."

RIL's stock rose as much as 0.72% during the day to Rs 1,282.9 apiece on the NSE. It was trading 0.53% higher at Rs 1,280 apiece, compared to a 0.28% advance in the benchmark Nifty 50 as of 09:34 a.m.

It has declined 3.62% during the last 12 months. The relative strength index was at 55.

The broader markets underperformed its larger peers, with the BSE MidCap plunging by 0.70% and the SmallCap falling by 1.04%.

Seven out of the 20 sectors compiled by BSE advanced, with Metal and Realty falling the most.

The market breadth was skewed in favour of the sellers as 1,738 stocks advanced, 990 advanced and 112 remained unchanged on the BSE.

Indian benchmark indices opened higher on Wednesday led by Infosys Ltd. and HDFC Bank Ltd. — a day after uncertainties around US President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs triggered a fall to June levels.

In early trade, Nifty rose 0.28% to 23,086 while the 30-stock Sensex rose 0.29% to 76,036. At pre-open, the S&P BSE Sensex Index was up 276 points, or 0.36%, at 76,114 while the NSE Nifty 50 was 74.5 points or 0.32% higher at 23,099.

The NSE Nifty 50 is likely to trade with a bearish bias as the index struggles to recover after breaking below the key psychological support level of 23,000 in Tuesday's session, according to analysts.  

Analysts peg immediate support at 22,800, which aligns with the long-term trendline, while resistance is seen at 23,140. Sustained selling pressure and global uncertainties can weigh on market sentiment.

Stock Market Live News: GIFT Nifty Trades Below At 23,200

Stocks in the Asia-Pacific region tracked overnight gains on Wall Street in hopes that President Donald Trump's policies would boost the outlook for the world's biggest economy.

The GIFT Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50’s performance in India, was down 12 points or 0.05%, at 23,149 as of 7:25 a.m.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 opened higher with the benchmark index advancing by 0.57%, or 48 points, to 8,451 as of 6:25 a.m. Japan's Nikkei was up 505 points, or 1.29% at 39,529. Future contracts in China and Hong Kong hinted at a cautious start.

Stocks in China gained in Tuesday's session as Trump held off from imposing trade tariffs in his inaugural speech, but later said he is considering a 10% levy as early as Feb. 1.

Meanwhile, Trump pushed to make the US an AI superpower by having fewer guardrails by immediately halting the implementation of key safety and transparency requirements for AI developers.

US 10-year treasury yields advanced after falling five basis points in the previous session, while the stocks added to their 2025 gains. The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.88% and 1.24%, respectively. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.64%.
