The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE have already released the holiday calendar for the whole new year of 2025, revealing the dates when stock markets will be closed. In total, there are 14 stock market holidays apart from 52 Saturdays and 52 Sundays in 2025, when markets will not open for trading.
As we begin the New Year, traders and investors may be wondering about the stock market holidays and when the markets will close in January. Read on to find out.
List Of BSE, NSE Holidays In January 2025
There are no additional stock market holidays in January other than the regular closures on the weekends. The BSE and NSE usually remain closed for trading on Jan. 26 on account of Republic Day. However, in 2025, Republic Day will fall on a Sunday and hence it is not included in the share market holiday list.
BSE and NSE will remain closed for eight days in January during the weekends– Saturdays and Sundays. The first stock market holiday in 2025, other than weekends, will be on Feb. 26 on the occasion of Mahashivaratri.
Stock Market Trading Holiday Schedule
Trading in the equities segment occurs on all days of the week, other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays announced by the stock exchanges. The market timings for the equities segment are as follows:
A) Pre-open session
Order entry & modification Open: 09:00 a.m.
Order entry & modification Close: 09:08 a.m.
*with random closure in last one minute. Pre-open order matching starts immediately after close of pre-open order entry.
B) Regular trading session
Normal / Limited Physical Market Open: 09:15 a.m.
Normal / Limited Physical Market Close: 03:30 p.m.
C) Closing Session
The Closing Session is held between 03:40 p.m. hrs and 04:00 p.m.
D) Block Deal Session Timings:
Morning Window: This window shall operate between 08:45 a.m. to 09:00 a.m.
Afternoon Window: This window shall operate between 02:05 p.m. to 2:20 p.m.
Note: The Exchange may, however, close the market on days other than the above scheduled holidays or may open the market on days originally declared as holidays. The Exchange may also extend, advance or reduce trading hours when it deems fit and necessary.
