The benchmark equity indices ended Wednesday's session in green, marking an end to the the longest losing streak in 29 years.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 254.6 points or 1.15% higher at 22,337.3, while the BSE Sensex closed 740.3 points or 1.01% higher at 73,730.2.
Shares of ITC, RIL, M&M, Bharti Airtel and Infosys led the gains in the Nifty the most.
HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd and Shriram Finance along with others, weighed on the index the most.
On the NSE, all of the 12 sectors advanced and none declined. While Nifty Metal, PSU Bank, Media and energy gained the most, Nifty Finance, Bank, and Pharma gained the least.
Nifty metals ended in green for third consecutive session. Nifty media ended in green for the second consecutive session after a three-day losing streak.
Broader indices also closed higher. Nifty Midcap 150 ended 2.43% higher and Nifty Smallcap 250 closed 2.71% higher.
The market breadth was skewed in the favour of buyers, as 768 stocks declined, 3,244 advanced and 89 remained unchanged on the BSE..
