The benchmark indices ended in green for the second straight session on Thursday. The NSE Nifty 50 rose to hit the 22,500-mark again after five sessions, whereas the BSE Sensex reclaimed the 74,000-mark.
The Nifty 50 ended 207.4 points or 0.93% higher at 22,544.7, while the Sensex closed 609.8 points or 0.83% higher at 74,340.09.
Shares of Reliance Industries Ltd., Axis Bank Ltd., NTPC Ltd., Asian Paints Ltd. and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. led the gains in the Nifty the most.
Tech Mahindra Ltd., Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd., Trent Ltd., Bharat Electronics Ltd. and HDFC Life Insurance Co. weighed on the index the most.
On the NSE, 11 out of the 12 sectors advanced and only one declined. Nifty Oil & Gas, Metal, Energy, Pharma and FMCG led the gains, whereas Nifty Realty was the only sector that settled in the red.
Nifty Oil & Gas ended in green for the third consecutive session, and the top stocks were Castrol India Ltd. and Mahanagar Gas Ltd.
Broader indices also closed with gains. Nifty Midcap 150 ended 0.55% higher and Nifty Smallcap 250 settled 1.49% higher.
The market breadth was skewed in the favour of buyers, as 1,009 stocks declined, 2,987 advanced and 107 remained unchanged on the BSE.
