The Indian benchmark equity indices snapped a three-session gaining streak to close lower on Wednesday, dragged by share prices of Reliance Industries Ltd. and ICICI Bank Ltd.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 46.4 points or 0.18% lower at 25,476.1, while the BSE Sensex closed 176.43 points or 0.21% down at 83,536.08. During the day, Nifty fell 0.38% to trade at 25,424.35 and Sensex declined 0.39% to 83,382.28.
Shares of Shriram Finance Ltd., Bajaj Finance Ltd. and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. were among the top gainers in the Nifty.
HCL Technologies Ltd., Tata Steel Ltd., Hindalco Industries Ltd., Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. and Tech Mahindra Ltd. were among the biggest laggards.
In terms of points contribution, HDFC Bank Ltd. and HUL were among the stocks that led the gains in the Nifty.
RIL and ICICI Bank dragged the index the most.
On the NSE, eight out of the 15 sectors ended in the red, with Nifty Realty, Metal and Oil & Gas declining the most.
The broader market indices settled mixed as the BSE MidCap declined 0.08% and SmallCap gained 0.43%.
The market breadth was skewed in favour of the sellers as 1,982 stocks advanced, 2,017 declined and 156 remained unchanged on the BSE.
