FPI Turn Net Buyers After 23 Sessions Of Selling

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 378.20 points or 1.62% higher at 23,739.25 and the BSE Sensex closed 1,397.07 points or 1.81% up at 78,583.81.

Foreign portfolio investors turned net buyers of Indian equities after 23 straight sessions on Tuesday as they bought stocks worth approximately Rs 809.2 crore.

Domestic institutional investors were net sellers after 34 consecutive buying sessions as they offloaded equities worth Rs 430.7 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

The FPIs turned buyers for the first time since Jan. 2. The total value of the equities sold up until Feb. 3 was worth Rs 81,656 crore.

The FPIs sold stake worth Rs 3,958.4 crore on Monday. In January, the FPIs sold equities worth Rs 78,027 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.'s data.

The FPIs have sold Rs 3,639 crore worth of stake so far in February and a total of Rs 81,656 crore so far this year.

The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex had the best session since Jan. 2, as market participants found temporary relief after US President Donald Trump delayed imposing tariffs on Canada and Mexico for a month. HDFC Bank Ltd., and Reliance Industries Ltd. share prices contributed the most to gains.

The Nifty 50 ended 378.20 points, or 1.62% higher at 23,739.25, and the Sensex ended 1,397.07 points, or 1.81% higher at 78,583.81.

Intraday, Nifty 50 rose 1.72% to the day's high of 23,762.75, and the Sensex rose 1.91% to the day's high of 77,402.37. Since October, the FPIs had majorly been net sellers as they offloaded stocks worth Rs 7,292.3 crore. The DIIs stayed net buyers during the period and bought stocks worth Rs 5.32 lakh crore, according to provisional data from the NSE compiled by NDTV Profit.

In December alone, however, the FPIs were net buyers, having mopped up Indian equities worth Rs 15,446 crore, according to the NSDL data.
