A Tsunami hit Japan's coast after an earthquake of 7.6 magnitude rocked Noto in Ishikawa Prefecture in the country's western part, according to Japanese broadcaster NHK TV.
After the quake, Japan had issued a "major tsunami" warning. Torrents of water could reach as high as 5 meters (16.5 feet), NHK TV had warned. Waves more than 1-metre high hit Wajima coast in Ishikawa, it said.
The government urged the people to rush to high ground or to the top of nearby buildings as quickly as possible.
