Windows 11 Just Made Copilot+ Smarter — Here’s What’s New

As Microsoft continues to work on making Copilot+ PCs better, there's a new Windows 11 feature that might just make them worthwhile. The company is also adding an AI search tool to make it easier for users to find files and images.

Copilot+ AI-Powered Search

The feature was announced by Microsoft in a blog post for Windows Insiders. With the new search system, users can find files by their description instead of the file name. If one remembers what an image looks like but not its name, this can be useful.

Semantic indexing comes alongside standard file indexing on Intel and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs. This means that users can search for files in FileExplorer, Windows search box or Settings just by describing them. For example:

  • If you type ‘bridge at sunset’, you’ll find an image.

  • To find a document, search “Europe trip budget".

  • Check for any settings with phrases like 'change my theme".

This feature also works offline on Copilot+ PCs, with the powerful 40+ TOPS NPU in them.

Search Feature Expands To OneDrive

OneDrive cloud storage is also getting the AI search tool. Windows 11 will be able to help users describe an image or file and search both the local storage and the cloud to find it. This could save one from the headache of looking for lost or weirdly named files if it works as advertised.

A Step Forward For Copilot+

Live captions and translations are just a couple of the features that Microsoft has added to Copilot+ recently. This makes AI tools more accessible. With smarter search, maybe Copilot+ PCs will finally start to feel more useful. The big question is, will this feature roll as smoothly as Microsoft promises? Time will tell.
