Elon Musk has unveiled plans to upgrade the recommendation algorithm on X (formerly Twitter) with the help of artificial intelligence, promising a “dramatically better” user experience.
The announcement, made through a post on the social media platform, confirms that a lightweight version of Grok — the AI chatbot developed by Musk’s artificial intelligence venture xAI — will soon be integrated into X’s core systems.
Musk wrote in the post, "The X recommendation algorithm is being replaced with a lightweight version of Grok, so will soon be dramatically better! You should notice some improvement already."
Musk’s decision comes amid increasing complaints about the platform’s algorithm.
A user wrote, "Engagement farming and verification impersonation are some issues affecting the quality of the experience on this platform.” To this, Musk replied, “You should be seeing significant improvement there.”

Engagement Farming On X: Is It An Issue?
A person felt that some level of organic engagement farming is acceptable. “Organic engagement farming should be ok to an extent. Otherwise, small accounts will never get noticed,” wrote the user.
A comment read, “It's heartening to see initiatives aimed at enhancing user experience! Let's continue to prioritize authenticity and support one another towards a better online community. Together, we can build a platform rooted in trust and respect!”
A year ago, Elon Musk had announced a crackdown on Engagement Farming on X. Musk declared that any X accounts engaged in engagement farming will be suspended. Additionally, Grok, a detection tool, will be utilised to identify violations and trace the original stolen source material.
What Is Engagement Farming?
Engagement Farming is an unethical practice that involves the use of fake accounts or automated tools. This is often done to make a user's content appear more popular or to trick social media algorithms. It is done by inflating metrics such as likes, retweets, and follower counts, creating a deceptive illusion of popularity. T It disrupts the organic flow of information on social media, drowning out genuine voices and ideas with manipulated content.
In April 2025, xAI introduced a memory feature for Grok, enabling the chatbot to remember certain user details to personalise future interactions. This allowed Grok to offer more relevant suggestions and seamless conversations. The feature was made available to all users on both web and mobile platforms.
Elon Musk’s xAI launched the Grok chatbot in November 2023, almost a year after the likes of OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Anthropic launched their own models. Since then, xAI has progressively rolled out new features to make Grok more competitive.
In 2024, the company introduced Android and iOS apps, launched the Grok 3 model with DeepSearch and Voice Mode, and integrated the chatbot into X, allowing users to tag it in replies for instant responses.
