WhatsApp Rolls Out New Features: Choose Call Participants, Effects, Better Desktop Calling, More

WhatsApp has launched new calling options on desktop and mobile devices to make it simpler for users to stay in touch with friends and family. These updates are currently being implemented, and reportedly should be available to users this week.

The feature allows you to now choose which participants to call from a group chat. This way, you can call the people you want to without disturbing the others in the group. According to WhatsApp, this feature is “ideal for planning surprise parties or presents", which in a manner suggests that those who aren’t invited won’t be notified of their exclusion.

WhatsApp has introduced support for new backgrounds and filters, with over 10 effects that can turn your video calls into more entertaining chats. In its blog post, the company cited examples such as adding a microphone for karaoke during call, adding puppy ears, or adding an effect that shows you under water.

While there are filter options such as Black & White, Cool, Warm, Dreamy, Light leak, Prism light, Vintage TV, Frosted glass, Fisheye, and Duo tone, background options include Cafe, Living room, Office, Sunset, Beach, Forest, Celebration, Foodie and Blur.

Upon clicking the calls tab in the WhatsApp desktop app, this new feature allows various options for making calling easier. You can quickly access all the information you need to initiate a call, generate a call link, or dial a number directly.

WhatsApp claims that users can now experience higher definition video with a clearer picture on both 1:1 and group calls. Calls are more reliable whether you're using a desktop computer or a mobile device.
