India’s cybersecurity agency, CERT-In, has released a high risk security advisory, stating that Apple users should ensure that their devices are updated as soon as possible to avoid hacking or data theft.

What’s The Apple Advisory About?

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, which works under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has found several flaws in Apple’s systems. If left unpatched, these bugs would allow hackers to sneak into your device, see private data, or even take over your system. That is, your personal messages, banking apps, photos, and saved passwords will be at risk.

Furthermore, according to CERT-In, these things can result in unauthorised access, damage or theft of data, system crash or even a manipulation of your files. It could also let attackers inside one's device and gain more privileged access.

Which Apple Devices Are Affected?

It affects a large number of Apple products that run older versions of software, including:

  • Safari (before version 18.4).

  • Xcode (before 16.3).

  • iPhones and iPads running older versions like iOS/iPadOS 15.8.4, 16.7.11, 17.7.6, or 18.4.

  • macOS Sequoia (before 15.4), Sonoma (before 14.7.5), and Ventura (before 13.7.5).

  • tvOS (before 18.4).

  • visionOS (before 2.4).

The risk can be higher if you use several Apple devices or rely on them for work, entertainment, or finances.

What Can You Do?

The good news is that security patches have already been released by Apple. The only thing you need to do is to update your device. All you need to do is hit ‘Settings,’ tap ‘Software Update’ and hit download.

Cyber threats are on the rise, so updating your device is crucial. Updating takes minutes but saves you from serious trouble later on.
