Apple To Launch M4 MacBook Air This Week? All We Know About Specs, Features, Battery So Far

Is a new MacBook Air is on the horizon? Apple is expected to launch the latest iteration of the laptop with an M4 chipset sometime in early 2025, coming close on heels of the launch of the new iPad Air with an M3 chip inside.

While an official announcement is still awaited, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at the launch on social media after teasing the iPhone 16e launch earlier on X, formerly Twitter. In Mar. 3 post, Cook wrote, "This week," along with a six-second clip that said, "There's something in the air."

This announcement was followed by the launch of the latest iPad Air.

On March 2, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also confirmed the release in his 'Power On' newsletter, stating, "The M4 MacBook Air unveiling is imminent. In line with the details I reported in the last Power On, Apple is preparing to make a Mac-related announcement as early as this coming week, I'm told."

The M4 MacBook Air is expected to launch in 13-inch and 15-inch versions. Reports suggest the new models may also support Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI-powered software suite.

M4 Chipset And AI Integration: The MacBook Air may feature Apple's standard M4 chip, equipped with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, according to a report in 9TO5Mac. This Neural Engine is reportedly capable of executing up to 38 trillion operations per second, improving performance for AI-driven tasks.

Battery Efficiency: Apple's latest chips have consistently delivered improved energy efficiency. The M4 MacBook Air is expected to follow this trend, providing extended battery life without altering the existing design.

Nano-Texture Display Option: Apple may introduce a nano-texture display variant for the MacBook Air, a feature previously available on higher-end MacBooks. If included, this option would likely come at an additional cost.

RAM Capacity: The base model of the M4 MacBook Air is expected to come with 16GB of RAM, doubling the 8GB configuration of its predecessor. Users will also have the option to expand the RAM up to 32GB.

Upgraded Camera: The new MacBook Air is expected to feature a 12MP front-facing camera with Center Stage technology, which automatically adjusts framing during video calls to keep the user in focus. 

Design And Availability: Apple is not expected to alter the MacBook Air’s overall design, which last received a major overhaul with the M2 model. The 13-inch and 15-inch size options will remain, with no confirmed reports of new colour variants.
