Apple gave developers and public beta testers a preview of the final version of iOS 18.5 last week, which is expected to be made available to general users in the next couple of days.
Apple included release notes on its website, offering a look at the new features contained in the update, including some that were not discovered during the beta testing phase. Here’s a look at what iOS 18.5 might have in store for users.
iPhone 13 Satellite Connectivity
Even though the iPhone 13 does not support Apple’s built-in Emergency SOS with satellite capability, iOS 18.5 will now allow this safety feature. The iPhone 13 will be capable of connecting to satellite networks when a cell connection is unavailable.
Screen Time Update
The security feature will now alert parents the moment their child enters a Screen Time passcode on their device. So if a child wishes to go around parental controls on an Apple device, parents will know about it.
Apple Vision Pro Fix
With the 18.4 beta, the Apple Vision Pro app was launching with a black screen if downloaded from the App Store. The update fixes the issue, and the app should launch as expected.
Warranty Info Details
iOS 18.5 has increased the visibility of AppleCare Plus details. The AppleCare & Warranty menu also provides more detailed information regarding the type of coverage that your Apple products have.
Apple TV App Content Purchases
This update makes buying content on third-party devices such as smart TV easier. Through it, users can easily purchase content like movies, etc. via the Apple TV app on a third party device as well, along with Apple TV 4K.
Security Fix
Apple said that some enterprise apps might have an issue launching on iOS 18 or later. The problem has been resolved, and Apple suggested users to uninstall all enterprise apps from the device and reinstall them.
Writing Tools
Apple release notes also mentioned that there was an issue with attributes in Writing Tools, which has now been resolved.
Users, however, should note that some of these features might not be accessible on all Apple devices or in all locations.
