Rachin Ravindra shepherded New Zealand's chase with a timely century as his team recovered from an early wobble to see off Bangladesh by five wickets and secure its place in the semifinals of the Champions Trophy in Rawalpindi on Monday.
Victory for the Black Caps also confirmed India's slot in the semifinals while eliminating tournament hosts Pakistan and Bangladesh from the mega event. Both India and New Zealand have won their first two matches, including against Pakistan.
Before Ravindra's chancy hundred, all-rounder Michael Bracewell did the star turn with a four-wicket haul as New Zealand restricted Bangladesh to 236 for nine.
Bracewell also became the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with five wickets.
In reply, New Zealand were off to a disastrous start as they lost the wickets of Will Young and Kane Williamson with just 15 runs on the board. But they rallied to complete the chase in 46.1 overs, with Ravindra making 112 off 105 balls with the help of 12 fours and a six.
Tom Latham struck 55 in 76 balls while adding 129 runs for the fourth wicket with Ravindra which sealed the deal in New Zealand's favour.
Latham overtook Ben Duckett to become the leading run-getter in the tournament. He has scored 173 runs in two innings at an average of 173 and a highest score of 118 not out.
On Sunday, India rode on a clinical performance to outclass traditional rivals Pakistan with plenty to spare at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Batting first, Pakistan were bowled out for 241. Virat Kohli then regained his glorious touch with his 51st ODI hundred and was ably supported by Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, as India completed the chase with 45 balls to spare to inch closer to the semifinals.
On Saturday, Australia defeated England in a high-scoring thriller. Chasing England's 351-run total, Josh Inglish with an unbeaten 120-run knock led Australia to a victory in the group stage encounter.
This was the highest-ever total chased down in ICC Champions Trophy history. Australia's chase also marked the highest-ever by any team at an ICC white-ball tournament, surpassing the previous record set by Pakistan at the 2023 Men's Cricket World Cup against Sri Lanka when the former chased down 345. Ben Duckett (165 off 142) scored the highest-ever total in ICC Champions Trophy history.
