In the 2020 assembly polls, the RJD had emerged as the single-largest party, winning 75 out of the 243 seats. However, its key ally, the Congress, could win from only 19 constituencies.
The government was formed by the NDA, as the BJP won 74 seats, and ally JD(U) won 43. The halfway-majority mark of 122 was crossed with support from smaller allies.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had, on Sunday, said the elections will be concluded before Nov. 22, when the current assembly's term ends.
The polls, according to reports, could be held in fewer phases this time. Along with the voting dates, the ECI will announce the date that will be earmarked for the counting of votes.
