Employees across India are increasingly frustrated with the frequent technical issues plaguing the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) website. The Provident Fund (PF), a key component of financial planning for salaried workers, has become difficult to access due to recurring outages, failed OTPs and login errors.
The PF corpus is generated through a monthly contribution made by an employee and the employer. A government-backed long-term scheme, it earns interest rates annually, which compounds over the years turning into a decent corpus. PF also offers financial support during emergencies like illness or unemployment.
That’s exactly why it is important to keep a track of the PF balance and ensure all the necessary compliance (such as in case of job switches) to avoid any inconvenience later.
To improve accessibility, the government has rolled out several alternatives. Subscribers can check their PF balance through SMS and missed-call services, even if the website is down. Here is how:
Checking PF Balance On SMS:
EPFO members with an active Universal Account Number or UAN can check their latest PF contribution and balance by sending an SMS. UAN is a 12-digit unique subscriber number allotted by the EPFO. The number is available on payslips.
To get the information on SMS, one needs to use their registered number to send the enquiry on 7738299899. The default language for this service is English. However, users can also access the information in nine other languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam or Bengali.
Steps To Check PF Balance Via SMS:
Open the SMS app on the registered mobile number
3. To get the PF details in English, type: EPFOHO UAN
4. To get PF details in another language, type: EPFOHO UAN XXX
(Replace XXX with first three letters of your language, e.g., TEL for Telugu)
5. Send the SMS to 7738299899
6. You will receive an SMS with the latest PF contribution, balance and KYC info
Steps To Check PF Details Via Missed Call:
Make sure the mobile number is registered and activated with UAN on the EPFO portal.
Ensure at least one KYC (bank account, Aadhaar, or PAN) is linked to UAN
From the registered mobile number, give a missed call to 9966044425.
The call will automatically disconnect after two rings.
A SMS will be delivered with the last contribution and PF balance details.
EPFO subscribers should note that this service is free of cost.
