The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and Thiruvallur, forecasting moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning on Wednesday. Districts like Salem and Dharmapuri are under a yellow alert, the IMD said.
Due to the rainfall conditions, these districts are likely to face water logging issues, which may lead to traffic congestion. The weather body advised people to take precautions due to thunderstorms and lightning warnings and said to avoid stepping out of the house.

The intensity of Thunderstorm activity is likely to decrease and moderate Thunderstorm activity is likely to continue for a few hours, IMD stated in its latest update.
An orange alert was issued for these districts in Tamil Nadu on April 16: Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu.
A yellow alert was issued for these districts in Tamil Nadu on April 16: Erode, Salem, Dharmapur, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram.

Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai alsp has issued warnings to fishermen and have advised that harbour & marine operations to be careful.

The IMD has predicted that Chennai and its neighbourhood may experience a maximum temperature of 36-37 degrees Celsius today. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature is likely to be around 29 degrees Celsius, with a partly cloudy sky.
A day ago, parts of Tamil Nadu received rainfall at isolated places, while dry weather prevailed over Puducherry and Karaikal areas.
Maximum Temperature In Tamil Nadu In Next Few Days:
The IMD has also predicted that there will be no change in maximum temperature in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Subsequently, a gradual increase of 2-3 degrees Celsius may occur in some places of Tamil Nadu between Apr. 17 and 19. The agency also warned that the state will experience generally warm weather in some pockets over the next two days.
Besides Tamil Nadu, coastal Karnataka may also experience thunderstorms and lightning today. Moreover, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely over parts of interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Telangana.
