The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation released its budget for 2025-26 on Tuesday. While the total allocations for the financial year stands at Rs 74,427 crore — with a focus on education — the expenditures estimated stand at a total of Rs 3,955.64 crore.
BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani presented the budget for the financial year 2025-26 on Tuesday. The Rs 74,427-crore outlay shows a 14.19% increase from last year, which was estimated at Rs 65,180 crore.
The overall capital expenditure for the year is estimated at Rs 411.30 crore. While a total of Rs 3,544.34 crore is estimated for revenue expenditure.
When it comes to estimated expenditure, the education department took lead at Rs 2,803.77 crore. The department's revenue expenditure estimates stood at Rs 2,413.96 crore, according to the budget. Capital expenditure estimates were at Rs 389.81 crore.
The Chief Accountant's Department, which is finance or the treasury, is estimated to have the next highest expense. The revenue expenditure estimates stood at Rs 1,107.90 crore and the capital expenditure stood at Rs 0.03 crore, with the total at Rs 1,107.93 crore.
Capital expenditures in the Mechanical and Electrical Department was estimated at Rs 21.32 crore, in this budget. There was no revenue expenditure estimate for this department.
With Rs 11.95 crore revenue expenditure, departments related to General Administration & Ward Management are estimated to spend Rs 0.13 crore as capital expenditure. The total estimated spends towards general administration stood at Rs 12.08 crore, according to the budget.
The Assessor and Collector Department is estimated to spend a total of Rs 10.35 crore. This amount has been allotted for the revenue expenditure in this department.
The Municipal Secretary Department is estimated to spend Rs 0.18 crore under revenue expenditure, with no allocation toward capital expenditure. There is also a Rs 0.01 crore estimated expenditure from Development Plan Department, with no revenue expenditure in this department.
