Independence Day in the United States is celebrated each year on July 4, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. On this historic day, the 13 American colonies declared their separation from British rule, marking the birth of the nation.
Americans honour the occasion with fireworks, parades, concerts and family gatherings. Cities across the country are decorated with flags and patriotic colours, and organise public celebrations that showcase national pride.
This day is celebrated as a federal holiday in the US. This means that all non-essential US federal government offices are closed. As a result, while some services such as banks and postal services, schools are expected to remain closed, others like restaurants and retail outlets are likely to operate as usual.
