The benchmark equity indices closed higher for the fourth straight session on Monday on back of positive global cues, including robust US jobs data.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 100.15 points or 0.4% higher at 25,103.2, while the BSE Sensex closed 256.22 points or 0.31% up at 82,445.21. During the day, the Nifty rose 0.63% to trade at 25,160.1 and the Sensex advanced 0.58% to 82,669.
Shares of Jio Financial Services Ltd., Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. and Bajaj Finance Ltd. were the top gainers.
Eternal Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd. and Titan Ltd. were among the biggest laggards.
In terms of points contribution, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. and Axis Bank Ltd. were among stocks that led gains in the index.
ICICI Bank Ltd. and Eternal Ltd. dragged the index the most.
On the NSE, 13 out of the 15 sectors ended in the green, with the PSU Bank, Energy and Oil & Gas among top performers.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap rose but underperformed the Sensex, closing 0.90% and 0.43% up, respectively.
The market breadth was skewed in the favour of buyers as 2,794 stocks advanced, 1,401 declined and 134 remained unchanged on the BSE.
