Stock Market Highlights: Nifty, Sensex End Flat; Wipro, Zomato, HDFC Life Close In Green

Stock Market Highlights: The benchmark equity indices closed flat on Thursday, Aug. 14. Shares of Wipro, Eternal and HDFC Life contributed positively to the index.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 11.9 points or 0.05% higher at 24,631.3 and the BSE Sensex ended 57.7 points or 0.07% up at 80,597.6.

Benchmarks marginally outperformed broader market Indices for the week as they gained nearly 1% for the week. Nifty snapped its six week losing streak, led by Apollo Hospital, Eternal and Cipla.

Alkem Labs and One 97 Communication gained the most in Nifty Midcap 150. JM Financial and NMDC steel gained the most in Nifty Smallcap 250.

Nifty Pharma gained nearly 3.5% for the week, emerges as the top gaining sector for the week. Nifty IT snapped its five week losing streak. Nifty Financial services, Bank, PSU Bank, Pharma snapped its two week losing streak. While Nifty Auto, Media, FMCG and Metals gained for the second straight week.

In terms of point contribution Infosys, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank led gains while names like RIL, ITC, L&T weighed on the index.

Wipro marked the highest gains in the lot with over 2% gains as Zomato closely followed with nearly 2% gains. HDFC Life, Infosys and Asian Paints also marked gains.

Tata Steel marked the deepest losses closing over 3% lower with Tech Mahindra, Hero Moto and Bharat Electronics in the red.

Most of the sectors ended higher with Nifty Pharma, auto, Defence, PSU Bank and Consumption leading the lot. The only sector in the red was Nifty FMCG.

The BSE Midcap and SmallCap indices ended 0.18% and 0.59% lower, respectively.

The market breadth was skewed in the favour of the sellers as 2,305 stocks declined, 1,761 stocks advanced and 149 remained unchanged on the BSE.
