Stock Market Highlights: Nifty Posts 10-Day Slump, Sensex Ends Below 73,000

The benchmark equity indices ended Tuesday's session marking the longest losing streak in 29 years. The auto, IT and FMCG sectors declined the most.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 36.65 points or 0.17%, lower at 22,086.2, while the BSE Sensex closed 96.01 points or 0.13%, lower at 72,989.9.

Infosys, RIL, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Auto, and HCL Technologies, along with others, weighed on the index the most.

Shares of SBI, HDFC Bank, TCS, ICICI Bank and Bharat Electronics cushioned the fall in the Nifty the most.

On the NSE, eight out of the 12 sectors advanced and as many declined. The Nifty Auto, IT, FMCG and Pharma fell the most. While Nifty Media, PSU Bank, Energy, Oil & Gas, and Metal gained the most.

Nifty Auto hit a 52-week low today, making it the top sectoral laggard in trade. Nifty IT snapped a seven-day losing streak and ended back in red today.

Nifty Media and Nifty PSU Bank are top sectoral gainers. Nifty Media snapped a three-day losing streak and ended the day with gains.

The broader markets ended higher, with the BSE MidCap ending with gains of 0.16% and the SmallCap 1.16% up.

14 out of the 21 sectors in BSE had advanced while eight saw a decline. BSE Auto saw the steepest fall with a 1.13% decline.

The market breadth was skewed in favour of the buyers as 2,218 advanced, 1,743 stocks declined and 125 remained unchanged on the BSE.
