Telangana High Court granted interim bail to actor Allu Arjun, who was arrested hours ago on Friday in connection with a death during a stampede at a Pushpa 2: The Rule screening, NDTV reported.
A 35-year-old woman died and her eight-year-old son was hospitalised due to asphyxiation after a large crowd gathered at Sandhya Theatre during the premiere show of Pushpa 2 on the night of Dec. 4 to catch a glimpse of the superstar.
On Wednesday, the Telugu actor approached the high court, seeking quashing of an FIR registered against him in connection with the death. He had earlier announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to the family of the deceased woman.
On Dec. 5, the city police registered a case against the actor, his security team and the theatre management under Sections 105 and 118 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Chikkadpally police station, based on a complaint lodged by the deceased woman's family, PTI reported. During the investigation, police arrested three individuals: one of the theatre's owners, its senior manager and the lower balcony in-charge.
Arjun's latest movie, Pushpa 2, has become the fastest Indian movie to enter the Rs 1,000-crore club. The Sukumar directorial, which released on Dec. 5, is a sequel to the 2021 Telugu blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. The film has been also dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali and Malayalam, and has emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of 2024.
