Janata Dal (Secular) candidate HD Kumaraswamy has won from the Lok Sabha constituency of Mandya in Karnataka, as per data from Election Commission of India, marking his third stint as a parliamentarian.
With 8,51,881 votes, Kumaraswamy won by a margin of 2,84,620 votes against Congress leader Venkatarame Gowda, who polled 5,67,261 votes.
The constituency went for voting on April 26 during the second phase of the election.
Kumaraswamy had contested from Bangalore Rural in 2009 and from Chikkaballapur in 2014. He has been part of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 2013 till 2018.
His son Nikhil Kumaraswamy had contested the 2019 general elections but lost to Sumalatha, an independent candidate.
During the 2018 by-election in Mandya, LR Shivarame Gouda of the JD(S) won by securing 5,69,347 votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party's DR Siddaramaiah and independent candidate M Honnegowda secured 2,44,404 and 17,842 votes, respectively.
In Karnataka, the BJP and the Indian National Congress are leading in seven and nine seats, respectively.
